[Solved] Free Download Manager [Portabilizer issue]

Postby tonycfc » 15 March 2010, 09:05

When I started to use Free Download Manager(FDM), I encountered this particular problem. The settings were not properly saved and the process is not included under LiberKeyPortabilizer.exe every time it is launched. The result? I had to configure my settings on every startup, very annoying indeed.

Here is an included screenshot.

Hi tonycfc,

It's happen when you launch it from menu ? Is it the same thing from \Apps\FreeDownloadManager\FreeDownloadManagerLKL.exe ?

For Free Download Manager, portabilizer manage a registry key but nothing linked to settings.
It use by default those in \Apps\FreeDownloadManager\App\FreeDownloadManager\Data.

You might think that I launched it from explorer or anything else but no. I launched FDM from LiberKey and still gets the same result? Is it Windows 7 problem or? I tried it before on Windows XP SP3 and the same result. I'm not sure what am I doing wrong here. :S

What I mean:
Even if you launch directly \Apps\FreeDownloadManager\App\FreeDownloadManager\fdm.exe, it shouldn't have issue for settings but just for traces in registry.
Your settings seem to be saved "in the wind".

What you can try:
backup the FreeDownloadManager's folder, delete it and re-instal it.

tonycfc, please be sure not having any settings related to start FreeDownloadManager at system startup because it installs in the registry the wrong exe to launch it (not the launcher with LKL.exe but directly the final fdm.exe)

Well, first of all I would like to thank all of you for participating in this discussion and the help that some admins gave. The problem occurred when I used the LiberKey suit in a cybercafe where they installed Windows 7. Now, when I got to my friends house, I tried to launch FDM and the process is now under LiberKeyPortabilizer.exe. So the problem might be with the cafe's PC since there is no Faronics DeepFreeze installed, the FDM might have already written some registry data on the host machine.

I would like to say that I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused and thank you all, again! :)

LiberKey ROCKS!
