[Solved] Update restarts from beginning when interrupted

Postby pdupreez » 07 December 2013, 20:10

Hi

I have not recently updated my USB stick and found 84 updates for my Liberkey apps. We have been having issues with power interruptions and every time all the updates start from the beginning, even if it was busy with the last app update in the list.

This is not an issue with an European type cost structure for internet data, but down here in Africa it costs an arm and a leg when you only have cellular net access and certainly the updater should/could save/keep the apps already downloaded and on restart install those already downloaded and only download the ones not previously downloaded?

It seems to download everything, then install them and if this process is interrupted it just starts right from the top.

Usually, all previously downloaded app are kept, only the unfinished one is donwnloaded again.

Hi,

same problem here. Update often hangs and you can only cancel the action. When restarting update again, all the downloads of the previous try will be lost. The update alway starts over from scratch.

Let's give you an example of the update feature.

You have 10 updates pending. Liberkey starts downloading sequentially all of them. If for any reason the 4th download is frozen which is often the case when you have an antivirus looking at downloaded files, it can take some times if the package is huge. At this time, if you decide to cancel the whole update, the three firsts downloaded files are kept and only the 4th is definitively lost. Then if you restart the updates, Liberkey will download again the 4th one and the next ones, not the 3rd firsts which are still in the temporary folder (but maybe between the two updates, you cleaned the temporary folder, that's could be the reason of your issue).
Then when all applications are downloaded, Liberkley installs them.

Thank you for fast reply.

Sorry, but this is not the behaviour I experienced.
Update really often hangs, especially at lage Files (eg. Gimp, Calibre).
As I use LiberKey on on two different Systems:

My home desktop-pc
- WinXP Pro 32-bit
- Avast Antivirus
- Only in home network

And my business-notebook:
- Win7 Pro 64-bit
- Symantec Endpoint Protection
- At home, at office.

Both have the same issue. On the notebook, I cannot disable the virus protection, but on my desktop-pc it does not matter if it's running or not.
So I can say it does not depend on the OS, the antivirus, or the network.

It's my practice since many month to make LiberKey updates in many litte steps (large programs one by one).
I always retry immediately after cancelling. My temp folders are only cleared at system start by ccleaner.

And I _never_ saw that that a previous successful download had been recognized when I start over.

Are there any settings, you recommend?
How can I prevent that the cache is cleared?
Or any other tips?

I would really appreciate any help, because updates take very much time at the moment.

Thank you

Thank you for the detailed reply, but I am also not experiencing the behaviour as described.

In my particular example I had 84 updates, my machine lost power twice near the end (3 or 4 left to do) and about 2 or three times in the middle and every time it restarted right from the top (In my case it was AIMP) and downloaded them all again. I do not know which temp folder Liberkey uses for intermediate storage, so could not confirm if the files were physically present.

Thanks for your assistance

Thank you very much.

This really helps a lot, it makes update much easier.
